Great start to a weekend

Today was a great start to the weekend (sort of that is) Since my weekend actually starts on Friday and ends on Saturday, LOL. I work Sunday-Thursday. My better half works the traditional Monday-Friday routine.

We both love to garage/yard sale and this weekend was pretty good. Scored a nice kerosene glass lamp complete with brand new chimney and wick $2.00, woo hoo (it holds about 1 1/2 pins of fuel and stands about 14" high). A hand made (1956 7' 8") bamboo fly rod AND REEL! That was only $5.00. 5 qt cast iron dutch oven still in the box (looked as if it had never even been used) $1.00! Scored a nice 5 gallon gas can (unfortunately it is a CA CARB Compliant can) only $5 dollars, now I only need $25.00 to fill it.

Every payday the wife and I try to put a little something towards our Stash (food, preps, ammo, and other things) we feel we will be needing in the future. Scored a very nice hand crank SW Radio off Ebay. Been scouring the web for as much information as I can find on Solar, Wind, and other energy sources that I can make by myself.

Got my first Tomato plants out in there buckets all six of them. And am planting pole beans in two buckets with about 4' of chicken wire strung between the buckets on 6' tall poles. Saw this on another Blog and the site owner said they hauled in a little over 3 bushels of beans over the course of the summer. If it works that well for me this year then watch out next year.

Just a few prices current here (April 16, 2011):
Gas regular unleaded (Gallon)$4.05
2% milk (gallon) $2.88
3# whole coffee beans $16.88
Sugar C&H 4# bag $2.48
Flour 5# bag $1.66
Loaf of Bread Whole wheat 20 oz $2.58

Earthquake in Japan Again

My heart goes out to the Japanese people. My God another 7.0 quake, these people can not seem to get a break at all. Living in California I am acutely aware of earth quakes, having felt tremblers and gone thru the San Simeon quake. The was my first and only earth quake but I have went thru many hurricanes and tornadoes as a kid growing up in Texas. Mom and Dad were preppers we had a root cellar on the farm (with a hand pump well inside the cellar) stocked with many jars of moms home canned foods. when we got word of a tornado into the cellar we would go. Thank the good Lord we never had anything really major happen but we were prepared never the less. I have never forgotten that since.

My wife has come around to the prepper way of thinking now (over the last 10 years we have been together) she sees what is happening in this country. Constant rise in food, energy, and costs. We both work and do not have hundreds of dollars to spend, but always manage to put a little food and water aside each payday, over the years we have put a nice little 6-9 month supply that is rotated on a monthly basis. We only store what we eat. Having grown up on rice and beans and a chicken or two as a kid. It is not hard for me, she on the other hand, ate a very diversified menu growing up. So my taste have expanded a little more since having this wonderful lady come into my life.

I have learned to dehydrate, can, and several other "outmoded & out dated" forms of preserving and stocking methods, LOL. Neighbors are not to keen on all the "Smoke" coming from or funny little house in the back yard. Until that is, they get a little taste of the ham, bacon, or fish that is shared at some neighborly events in our get togethers.

In the future since it seems I am the only one reading this blog for now, I will be adding a few book titles and thoughts on how to get preps at a cheaper cost than normal. If anyone has ideas and see's this blog please be sure to send them to me I will repost with credit to the original sender.

Well They Caved

Here is video of Obama and Reid in disscusion of the Cuts (not sure how or why it was leaked):

Republicans caved last night, even after a clear mandate by the people in November. Not just the TEA Party but by most Americans. This person in the white house, clearly a socialist, has the idea that he has a free checkbook with no limit.

Besides telling a man with 10 kids, (ok I gotta say this, what part of birth control do you not get) that says he cannot afford fuel for his vehicle, he needs to buy a more fuel efficient vehicle. All the while Obama takes golf trips, vacations every month or so, and blows jet fuel by the tanker load.

Where does he get off telling anyone to buy a more fuel efficient vehicle. Jesus Christ man set the damn example! And the lazy ass American public says a does nothing. My god people a stamp is only .44 cents. Let's all send the white house a letter letting the "BIG O" know that we are pissed and not going to stand for this. Can you imagine if 1,000,000 letters alone came in how over burdened the white house would be? But mostly, take a stand at the ballet box and tell his ass that come November 2012 his services will no longer be needed.

People we can take back our country with the ballet box or with bullets. I personally prefer the ballet box, but if necessary will use bullets.
